Ask The Trainer: Why is exercise so important?

Why is exercise so important?

I am sure many people have asked themselves this question during a workout. There are actually several reasons why exercise is important and good for you. The best reason (in my opinion) is to feel better mentally and physically. Exercise allows for the release of chemicals in your body that promote feelings of wellbeing and energy. There is nothing like a good walk to help clear your mind and strengthen your heart and lungs.

Other reasons include the ever popular weight management. As part of a healthy lifestyle, exercise can keep your weight in check. The exercises that you practice during a workout can make the rest of your day easier to manage; loading kids and groceries into the car, working around the house, long days at the office. You get the idea. Exercise can help prevent certain diseases and improve other chronic health conditions; diabetes, osteoporosis and heart disease to name a few. Some people have reported that they sleep better when they exercise regularly.

The next time you need help getting motivated to get going, ask yourself. Why is exercise important to me?
